Clod Hoppers

As previously noted, we cakers like to steal popular food items, add some weird ingredients and then reclaim that food as our own. (See Quick and Easy Skor Bars as an example.) These Clod Hoppers are no different. Chocolatey. Salty. Graham crackery. In fact, I had to wonder: are these better than the original?

I conducted a taste test with myself and, well, myself and I found these Clod Hoppers tasted way better than the ones I bought at Bulk Barn. The ones from Bulk Barn had a faint cumin flavour. Although, if we're going to be honest, most things from Bulk Barn have a faint cumin flavour.

But don’t take my word for it. I brought these into the office and they were gone before I could even ask, “Any of you guys want to check out my new Beta video player this weekend?”

4 cups Golden Grahams cereal
2 cups white chocolate wafers
2 tablespoons oil
1 cup salted peanuts

Melt chocolate and oil in a double boiler. Add peanuts and grahams. Spread onto a waxed paper lined cookie sheet. When cooled and set, break into pieces. Store in airtight containers.

  1. Whoops--never mind. Googled it. Looks like an interesting kind of place. Is the Crunchie Munchie mix as good as it looks?

    1. Veg-o-matic, I'm glad you've discovered the wonderful world of Bulk Barn. While shopping in one, it's important to try and not think about two things: mice and stranger's fingers. If you can manage to block those out, you're in for a good time.
I can assure you that Crunchie Munchie is as delicious as it looks. A faint cumin aftertaste, but otherwise, tasty.

  2. We had some supermarkets here for a while that had a bulk food aisle--candy, nuts, dried fruit, some baking products, etc.--but never a whole store. It sounds amazing, and would really appeal to the cheapskate in me. Tang in bulk? Dream Whip powder? I'm there.
But the strangers' fingers. Yeah. Ew.
OMG!!1!! You have a new Beta video player? Sweet.
I think Schwartzies Hash Browns will appear on our table soon. I tried a similar recipe (from an Inferior Website) that didn't work out. At. All.
So glad I discovered you, as I now get my favorite recipes here.

    1. Believe me, Veg-o-matic, you NEED to make Schwartzie's Hash Browns. I say this a lot on this blog (and few people believe me), but some of the food on here is delicious. Schwartzie's is one of those dishes. You won't regret it.

Tonight, I'm watching Porky's on my Beta Video Player.

  3. Strangely I was just in Bulk Barn this morning and Ithought of you and how I always made fun of you for shopping there, telling you it was for grannies.(I admit, I had my $3 off coupon AND I got a free shopping bag with my purchase, HELLO! Who's the granny now?!) Shit be damned, I love that place now too.

I bought some date/almond/coconut rolls there the other day and, although they're delicious, I couldn't put my finger on the subtle after taste on them. Alas, it's CUMIN! Well, and maybe a dash of turmeric and a hint of celery salt and maybe a fart's worth of sumac powder. Yea, that's right, sumac powder! (WTF would you do with that hippie/native shit)?

Anyway, I'd love to try these clodhoppers but I would have to figure out how to make them wheat, dairy, soy and sugar free. So basically I could make them with hay, liquid paper and xylitol.

    1. Well, well, well, Vintage Cabin. Looks like someone is eating a big slice of wheat-free, dairy-free, soy-free and sugar-free humble pie right now. I'm glad you've converted. I got that free bag, too!

I have no idea what sumac powder is and unless I can sprinkle it on my popcorn, I probably don't need to know.
