Mars Bars

While nothing pleases cakers more than creating copycat recipes of our favourite treats (see Quick and Easy Skor Bars for an example), this recipe, in spite of its name, isn’t for homemade Mars bars. It does, however, involve chocolate bars.

Four of them. Melted. With butter. And Rice Krispies.

Look, if you’re not already onboard, there’s not much else I can do to sell you on these squares. Unless, of course, that final layer of melted milk chocolate chips shoves you over the fence post.

Mark my words: your love affair with Rice Krispies squares is over. There's a new bitch in town.

4 Mars bars
1/3 cup margarine (I used butter)
3 cups Rice Krispies
16 oz package milk chocolate chips

Melt bars and butter in double boiler, then add 3 cups Rice Krispies. Mix and press into an 8x8” pan. Melt chocolate chips in microwave or double boiler and spread over squares. Allow to cool and cut.

Source: a random recipe card. I think this might be my mom's writing. This is about as detailed as most caker recipes get.

  1. I just had one of these and sorry, Rice Krispies squares, our long ride was fun but I'm getting off on Mars.

  3. I made these yesterday. They're almost gone...

  4. I made these last night. Two notes:

    1. I don't know what kind of caker would use a double-boiler to make rice krispie squares, but not this one. I changed directions to "Throw bars and butter in microwave for 2 minutes" and it worked fine.

    2. I might add a caution, "If over 30, do not eat half the pan by yourself in the middle of the night."

    1. Many cakers can't afford microwaves. Most of us just use old dog bowls and boiling water to melt things.

  5. I had a thought. You can use other chocolate bars.
I used After Eights. Very good.

  6. I made these yesterday but wish I didn't. Only a quarter of them are left.

    1. Phil, always make sure there are other people around when you make Mars Bars. Otherwise, it's too risky being by yourself with a pan of them.
